Marit Ilison is a Tallinn based multi-disciplinary artist and freelance designer working in the fields of conceptual art, fashion, costume design, site-specific installations and exhibition design.
She received her MA in Fashion Design from the Estonian Academy of Arts and gained experience in London, Copenhagen, Antwerp, Paris and Berlin, interning and working for labels like Bruno Pieters and Camilla Staerk among others. Arising from a passion for concepts, pattern-making and tailoring, as well as interest in human existence and perception, Marit Ilison’s work is a mesh of complex strands of thought and precise, often time-consuming technical execution. Her site-specific installations and fashion performances have been noted by a reknown trend forecaster Li Edelkoort and compared to the works of Hella Jongerius. She has presented her multi-disciplinary exhibitions in Europe and the US, most recently at BIO EST festival in New York and at International Fashion Showcase in London Fashion Week. Ilison’s projects have been featured in different international’ magazines – Vogue Italia webzine, It’s Nice That magazine, VICE Magazine and Stylus.com trend forecast site among others. She is currently a lecturer at the Estonian Academy of Arts, creating and executing personal conceptual installation and fashion projects as well as playing drums in a psychedelic group Väljasõit rohelisse.
